Brooks Tree Farm is a family held and operated organization
specializing in young plants for the Christmas tree, timber, ornamental nursery
trades as well as plants native to the
Pacific Northwest. We provide bare root seedlings, transplants,
plugs and young trees established in pots for the grafting trade.
The nursery was started on a small farm in Brooks, a small community in the rich, mild and green
Willamette
Valley
. Having improved the Brooks farm to its fullest potential, a farm on the west bank of the
Willamette River
was purchased in 1990. Although the soil there is sandy and beautiful for seedlings, it is on a flood plain so a search for suitable ground above the
Willamette
began. This culminated with the purchase of a farm in the Silverton Hills in 1998. Additional farms have been purchased
in the past years bringing the total to six farms on 175 acres.
The 20 mile distance between the two growing fields and the main facility in Brooks illustrates the care taken in selecting fields with the proper soil and climate conditions needed for our products. Each farm has excellent wells for irrigation, and unique climate conditions suitable for certain species. All of the Noble fir production is sent to the Silverton farm, where the cooler climate of the hills best suit the species. Likewise, fine rooted material such as Mahonia will be grown on the River Farm, where the sandy loam soils will facilitate good root growth and ease in harvest.
Slow growing plants benefit from the longer growing season on the valley floor.
The original Brooks location now houses the plug
production facility and is capable of producing two million plugs per year. New packing facilities and offices were
added in 2004 allowing us to pack up to 500,000 trees per day.
Onsite cold storage provides monitored cold storage of up to three million trees at a time. Additional cold storage and freezer storage is rented nearby.
All of the shipping and receiving is done out of the Brooks Farm. Directions are included below. You
may pick up at the nursery or ask to have your trees shipped by local truck. Federal Express, UPS and Delta airfreight are available for shipping to distant locations.
