An introduced species that has become commercially important for the timber trade in the eastern USA. It tolerates harsh cold and windy conditions. The needles are small and medium green. Fast growing, it can achieve 100'. It's also the most common under stock for all picea grafts in the commercial nursery trade due to hardy, fibrous roots and adaptable scion reception.
